Drama Club

What is Drama Club? Drama Club is a group for anyone interested in learning more about theatre, both on stage and behind the scenes. Students work together to produce two shows every school year: a small cast play or musical in the fall and a large cast musical in the spring. Drama Club members have the opportunity to participate in auditions, character development, choreography and music rehearsals, set construction, and performances.

Who can join? The Fall Play is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The Spring Musical is open to all 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

How do I join? Auditions for the Fall Play are held in early September. Auditions for the Spring Musical are held in mid-December. Auditions may require solo singing, dancing, and cold readings from a script. Students who are only interested in participating in Stage Crew need to fill out an audition form, but do not have to audition.

When does it meet? Once a show is cast, we rehearse on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 pm-5:30 pm. A detailed schedule is given out once rehearsals begin. Typically, students are not needed at every rehearsal. As we get closer to the performances, rehearsals may run longer or additional rehearsals may be added, as needed.

Since many of our members also participate in sports and other school activities, we are flexible with attendance, as long as we are kept informed of conflicts and the students work with their fellow cast members to make up what they missed. However, rehearsals during tech week (the week of the performances) are MANDATORY.

What does it cost? While there are no fees directly associated with Drama Club, students/families should be aware of a few of the monetary responsibilities* that may apply:

When cast in a show there is a possibility that the cast/crew member will be asked to provide certain items (costumes/props/etc.). We are always mindful of cost and try to limit these items to things that many would already own, can be borrowed, easily made, or can be found at a resale store (ex. Savers, Goodwill, etc). The director(s) will provide information regarding these items prior to tech week of each show.

T-shirts - (optional) shirts are ordered for each show and typically cost around $15-20 each.

Tickets - for family/friends to attend shows are usually set at $5 each (all ages)

Cast parties - hosted by a cast/crew member, who often asks those attending to contribute to the cost of food/drinks (~$3-5).

*Please let your director(s) know if for some reason you are not able to meet any financial requests. We are most interested in making sure any student who has an interest in theatre is able to take part and will do our best to help make that happen!
